EE UU, Irán y Cuba se unen para rechazar en la ONU al mayor grupo gay del mundo

Enfrentados en casi todo, Estados Unidos, Irán y Cuba votaron juntos la semana pasada contra el nombramiento de la Asociación Internacional de Lesbianas y Gays (ILGA) como asesora de la ONU en materia de derechos humanos. La asociación -la mayor del mundo en defensa de los derechos de los homosexuales- había pedido entrar en el grupo de 2.100 ONG que forman parte del Consejo Económico y Social (Ecosoc) de la ONU. Camerún, China, Pakistán, Rusia y Zimbabue también se opusieron.

La decisión de cuáles son las ONG que forman parte en este órgano consultivo la toma un comité de 19 países. En esta última votación apoyaron la entrada de la ILGA Chile, Francia, Alemania, Perú y Rumania. Se abstuvieron Colombia, Turquía y la India, y no asistió Costa de Marfil.

La vuelta al Consejo Económico y Social es una vieja aspiración de los grupos de lesbianas y gays. En 2002, una petición similar de la ILGA -que representa a más de 400 asociaciones de todo el mundo- fue rechazada, aquella vez con el voto en contra de España, gobernada por el PP.

La causa oficial de la negativa es la acusación de que algunas organizaciones de la ILGA permiten las relaciones ilegales con menores. Ése fue el motivo esgrimido en 1994 cuando se suspendió el estatus de observador de la ILGA en Naciones Unidas. A raíz de aquella denuncia, la ILGA expulsó a tres organizaciones, según explica en su web. Pero la asociación mantiene la afirmación, aprobada en 1985, de que "los jóvenes tienen derecho a su autodeterminación social y sexual, y a menudo las leyes de consentimiento actúan como una forma más de opresión en lugar de proteger".

Parlamento Europeo

Por el contrario, el pasado 18 de enero el Parlamento Europeo aprobó una resolución en la que insta a los Gobiernos a "luchar contra la homofobia". La propuesta fue aprobada por 468 votos a favor, 149 en contra (entre ellos los eurodiputados del PP Jaime Mayor Oreja (parece una paradoja, pero realmente son dos apellidos) y Cristina Gutiérrez-Cortines) y 41 abstenciones.

En este texto se afirma que "la homofobia puede definirse como un miedo irracional y una aversión a las personas homosexuales, lesbianas, transexuales y bisexuales basado en prejuicio similar al racismo, la xenofobia, el antisemitismo y el sexismo". Y se pide a los Estados miembros que "se aseguren de que las parejas del mismo sexo disfrutan del mismo respeto, dignidad y protección que el resto de la sociedad".

La lucha contra la homofobia debe realizarse a través de la educación, en las escuelas, institutos y la universidad, y debe conseguir "el fin de la discriminación de las parejas del mismo sexo en áreas como la herencia, la propiedad, las rentas, alquileres, pensiones, impuestos, seguridad social, etcétera", afirma el Parlamento Europeo.

Faced in almost everything, The United States, Iran and Cuba voted together the week last against the appointment of the Association the International of Lesbianas and Gays (ILGA) like adviser of the UN in the matter of human rights. The association - the greater one of the world in defense of the rights of the homosexuals had requested to enter the group of 2,100 ONG that comprise of the Economic and Social Council (Ecosoc) of the UN. Cameroun, China, Pakistan, Russia and Zimbabue also were against.

The decision of which they are the ONG that comprise in this consultative organ the taking a committee of 19 countries. In this last voting they supported the entrance of the ILGA Chile, France, Germany, Peru and Rumania. They abstained Colombia, Turkey and India, and it did not attend the Ivory Coast.

The return to the Economic and Social Council is an old aspiration of the groups of lesbians and gays. In 2002, a similar request of the ILGA - that represents more than 400 associations of all the world was rejected, that time with the vote against Spain, governed by the PP.

The official cause of the refusal is the accusation of which some organizations of the ILGA allow the illegal relations with minors. That one was the reason used in 1994 when estatus of observer of the ILGA in United Nations was suspended. As a result of that denunciation, the ILGA expelled three organizations, according to it explains in its Web. But the association maintains the affirmation, approved in 1985, of which "the young people have right to their social and sexual self-determination, and often the consent laws act as one more a form of oppression instead of protecting ".

On the contrary, the past 18 of January the European Parliament approved a resolution in which it insists to the Governments "to fight against homophobia". The proposal was approved by 468 votes to favor, 149 in against (among them eurodiputados of the PP the Jaime Mayor Oreja (it seems a paradox, but really they are two last names) and Cristina Gutiérrez-Cortines) and 41 abstentions.

In this text one affirms that "homophobia can define as an irrational fear and an aversion to the homosexual people, lesbians, transsexuals and bisexuals based on prejudice similar to racism, the xenophobia, the anti-semitism and the sexism ". And one requests to the States members that "make sure that the pairs of the same sex enjoy the same respect, dignity and protection that the rest of the society ".

The fight against homophobia must be made through the education, in the schools, institutes and the university, and it must obtain "the aim of the discrimination of the pairs of the same sex in areas like the inheritance, the property, the rents, rents, pensions, taxes, social security, et cetera ", it affirms the European Parliament.
